Now the drain of January has finally come to an end and we are full steam ahead into rehearsal season, naturally, it’s got us thinking about the must-see ballet events for 2019. We have jete’d and pirouette’d across the internet to find which ones you should be rushing to get tickets for. So, instead of you having to do the hard work, we know you have far too much rehearsing to do for that, we have compiled you a go-to guide of the top ballet events worldwide that you should consider attending.
Whether you’re local to Chicago or Dublin, whether you’re into ballet events in NYC or ballet events in Sydney or whether London is your muse, you’re sure to find a ballet show that is calling your name to the big stage. Today, we’re dancing all over the globe. Next stop, Europe?
There are a number of shows of Swan Lake scattered across the world, here are some of the best showings this 2019!
Prague: Swan Lake in Prague, what a dream combination. From February 1st 2019 until April 28th 2019, eighteen dancers will bring the story of Swan Lake to life on the intimate stage the Hybernia Theatre in Prague.
Dublin: Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake can be found touring in Dublin from February 26th 2019 up until March 1st 2019. The Swan Lake will return to Dublin, this time with the St. Peterburg Ballet from October 22nd 2019 until October 26th 2019.
USA: Salt Lake City are putting on performances of Swan Lake all through February at the Capitol Theatre.
Belgium: You can see a spectacular performance of Swan Lake on February 17th in Belgium as part of Cirque Royal.
Sydney: The Australian Ballet are bringing the outstanding show of Giselle to Sydney from 1st May 2019 until 18th May 2019.
Akram Khan’s Giselle: The iconic ballet has been reimagined. Following performances in Auckland, Dublin and Hong Kong last season, Akram Khan’s ballet continues to tour international stages in 2019 lasting from 28th February until 14th July 2019. Locations include Chicago, Luxembourg and Moscow.
2019 is a perfect time to get yourself in a Don Quixote audience. Original choreography is from 1869, therefore making this year, Don Quixote a celebration of the 150th anniversary of this effervescent ballet. So, want a splash of Spanish in your life? Here’s where to find it!
London: Don Quixote is being shown at the Royal Opera House in London from February 15th until April 4th 2019.
Spectacular sets, lavish tutus combined with beautiful ballet telling the fairytail story of romance, wonder and ballet. It’s always a magical time at a Sleeping Beauty performance.
San Francisco: Opening its curtains on March 9th, 2019, San Francisco Ballet are continuing their showing of Sleeping Beauty through March. Choreographed by Helgi Tomasson after Marius Petipa, The Sleeping Beauty is back by popular demand.
Belgium: The Moscow City Ballet will be performing Sleeping Beauty in Belgium on the 17th February 2019.
Prague: Prague have live performances of The Nutcracker during February at the Divadlo Hybernia.
Belgium: In December, The Moscow City Ballet have announced they will be showing The Nutcracker in Belgium on December 7th and 8th, 2019.
Melbourne: The Australian Ballet will bring The Nutcracker to life from 17th September until 28th September 2019.
Sydney: The Nutcracker can also be found in Sydney from 30th November until 18th December 2019 brought to us by The Australian Ballet.

Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece Swan Lake continues to delight audiences with the combination of romance, drama, tragedy and outstanding score. Swan Lake is iconic in the dancing world. Not only for the mystique of the Swan Queen, but also the exceptional score. Tchaikovsky’s first ballet certainly set the bar for future ballet music.
